"The well-known business principle of supply and demand can be used to make slavery obsolete. All that is needed is ingenuity, patience, and a willingness to put your money to work. New Rivers Enterprises is a place where all of these qualities come together."
This blog is the final blog in the two-part series about how New Rivers Enterprise is working to disrupt the Supply and Demand of slavery. We recommend reading the previous blog to get a complete understanding of this approach.
Disrupting the Demand Side
The Simplicity of Disruption:
Disrupting the demand for slave labour is relatively straightforward compared to addressing the supply side. Slave-based industries primarily use slaves to maximise profits, although they do not necessarily depend on slave labour for profitability.
Challenging Industry Paradigms:
At New Rivers, we challenge several misconceptions:
1. Identifying and Addressing Vulnerabilities:
We demonstrate that industries do not need to rely on slave labour to be competitive.
2. Market Viability of Ethical Products:
Ethical products can indeed compete effectively in the market.
3. Regulatory Challenges:
We address the belief that regulating against slave labour is impractical due to high demand for these products.
Profitability and Ethics
Balancing Profit and Worker Welfare:
We believe profits should not come at the cost of human dignity. By improving production processes and worker conditions, businesses can increase profits while transitioning away from slave labour.
Case Study: Brick Factories in Pakistan
In Lahore's brick factories, which rely heavily on slave labour, only 50% of bricks produced are top grade, due to inefficiencies. Simple improvements like providing clean drinking water and enhancing production processes can significantly increase profitability, even without slave labour.

Educating and Influencing other Businesses
Leading by Example:
Our success in transitioning businesses away from slave labour serves as a model for others, demonstrating:
Profitable business practices without reliance on slave labor.
The viability of ethical products in competitive markets.
Support for regulatory efforts against the use of slaves in industries.
Taking Action
A Step Towards a Slave-Free World:
The journey to a world without slavery is long but achievable, starting with small but significant actions like transforming a brick factory in Pakistan. With an investment of around $300,000.00AUD, New Rivers can purchase, transition, and manage a brick factory in a way that restores dignity and hope to enslaved families and reduces the demand for slaves.
