More Than Charity
Charity can be described as the voluntary giving of help, typically in the form of money, to those in need. Charity is an incredible way to impact people around us, but it is a short term solution for a long term problem. If we want to break poverty we need to empower not just maintain. Empowering people to make their own positive choices reverses poverty, dismantles slavery and promotes flourishing.

We at New Rivers actively seek opportunities to empower lives that are at risk.

How do we effectively empower people?

Lasting change is established when those in need are able to own and actively participate in their solution. An important aspect of this is respect for the cultural context. Every region has its own cultural norms, and it is essential that this cultural context informs change. Working alongside and embracing culture is part of the key to providing more than charity.
